Counseling

Many times LGBTQ youth feel alone or just need a safe place to talk. Time Out Youth Center is here to help you with free individual, couples and family counseling to LGBTQ youth and their support systems. Youth under the age of 18 must have signed parental consent to participate in counseling.

What is counseling?

Individual counseling is an opportunity to receive support and experience growth during challenging times in life. Individual counseling can help you deal with many personal topics in life such as anger, depression, gender identify,  coming out, anxiety, substance abuse, relationship challenges, school difficulties, and plans for the future.

What to expect in my first session?

At your first session the counselor will ask you questions about your life, why you came to counseling and what your current situation is. Counseling is a team effort so the more involved you are in the process the more you will gain from the experience.

How long does counseling take?

Ideally, counseling is ended when the problem that you started counseling for becomes more manageable or is resolved. At Time Out Youth we anticipate that 6-8 sessions will be enough time to complete your counseling goals.

How do I know I can trust the counselor?

Confidentiality is part of the agreement that the counselor has with you as a client. Creating a place where you can trust and feel safe is every counselor’s goal.

What do I talk about?

You can talk about whatever is on your mind. Counseling is a safe place where you can be yourself and share the secrets you hold close. You will not be judged for your past, present, or future.

Our Therapist

Time Out Youth Center employs an on-site therapist to see all clients. Thanks to donations of community services, this service is offered free of charge, however services are limited to clients entering counseling for brief therapy (maximum of 10 sessions). Clients needing more intensive therapy will be referred to other organizations or therapists in the community.
